My favourite time of year

This is my favourite time of the year. Not just because it’s my birthday coming up, but also because I love being outside at this time.

Mostly I love English weather. I love the variety, if ever you get weather you don’t like, just wait a bit and it will change. But when we get the extremes (more and more often now), I tend to stay indoors. I don’t cope well with heat, and particularly humidity, but thankfully I don’t mind a bit of rain. I would struggle being in Manchester if I did.

Near where I live there’s a park that I like to walk around. A full circuit there, round and back takes me about 45-50 minutes, and it takes me past trees, flowers, a duck pond and usually a whole variety of dogs out for a walk. I’ve been doing this same walk for years now, particularly during the pandemic, and I have yet to tire of it. It’s a great for having a think, seeing some greenery, and getting some fresh air.

The thing I like most, is that every walk is different. With the changes to the seasons and differences in wildlife, I never get bored. Right now, the blossom is out on the trees, the flowers are coming out, and there are plenty of ducks and geese in the pond. Walking at this time of year makes me happier than at any other time.

Walking is also great for your health. If I can’t get outside then I still try and do walking workouts indoors (try out Jessica Smith, she’s amazing). I had a long period when I didn’t get out as much, and it had very noticeable impacts on my physical and mental health, so I will be trying to make sure I don’t lose this habit again.
